STATEMENT BY MRS URSULA SCHLEICHER, MEP
I was deeply shocked to hear about the tragic death of Mr Antonio Russo,
a prominent Italian journalist, in Georgia on 16 October. Mr Russo had
courageously reported on events in the Caucasus, especially on Chechen
refugees in the Pankisi Gorge and in Chechnya.
I would like express my sincere condolences to the family of Mr Russo.
I would also like to ask the Georgian authorities to carry out a thorough
investigation into the distressing incident.

DICHIARAZIONE DELLA

Sono rimasta colpita dalla tragica morte di Antonio Russo, giornalista
italiano molto conosciuto, avvenuta il 16 ottobre scorso in Georgia. Il
signor Russo ha sempre scritto articoli molto coraggiosi sulla situazione
nel Caucaso, specialmente sui rifugiati ceceni nel Pankisi Gorge ed in
Cecenia.
Desidero esprimere le mie pił sincere condoglianze alla famiglia del signor
Russo.
Intendo inoltre chiedere alle Autoritą georgiane di svolgere delle ricerche
per scovare gli autori di questo avvenimento tragico.
