Law for the depenalization of abortion. 11/12 June. Italy. Referendums against public financing of political parties and the REALE Law on public order, rejected. Suspension of the Partys national activities is deliberated as a denouncement of censorious regimes and media. In the course of a TV debate, deputies Marco PANNELLA, Mauro MELLINI, Emma BONINO and other Radical activists appear gagged and wearing notices around their necks denouncing media censorship. They refuse to speak for 24 minutes. NOVEMBER - Italy: Bari - XX RP CONGRESS Relaunch of local initiatives, environmental policy, participation in European elections deliberated "... the RP will take part in European Parliamentary elections, to bring to that body their internationalist, federalist and regionalist convictions and their programmes and alternative values that are opposed to a Europe of national, nuclear states and of multinationals." A "Train for Disarmament" from Brussels to Warsaw is organized for the Summer of 1979. French conscientious objector Jean Fabre elected as RP Secretary. Outraged by the election of a foreigner to the post, Italian President Pertini refuses to meet him.
