1997 Membership declaration
Rome, September 12, 1997
Dear Oliver,
Recent events in Israel remind me of the Transnational Radical
Party's Federal Council that we held in Jerusalem some years ago. On
that occasion I stated that the new TRP's characteristics needed a renewal
in the direction of the party ant that new force was personified by
these young fellows that were committing themselves full-time to the
difficult construction of a transnational political subject.
Your international responsibility and rewards, mainly the Consultative
Status with the United Nations, confirm the successful pursuit of a
line that, despite its contiguity and ambiguity with the Italian politics
that I do not share, is starting to achieve its objectives.
After a long rumination I have decided to accept your invitation
to join the Party, and to affirm TRP's distinctive character and contribute
to the campaigns for the universal abolition of the death penalty and
for the establishment, in Rome, of an International Criminal Court.
Two initiatives that are to me particularly meaningful.
Another issue that I endorse is the international debate on antiprohibitionism
on drugs.
I take the occasion to share with you my anguish and our impotence
and incapacity about the Algerian tragedy.
Cordially,
Franco Corleone
