- Radical Party says no to Italian model in Hungary. “To the Members of the Hungarian Parliament. Dear Colleagues, we are informed that Hungary’s drafted Constitution should include the protection of life understood as starting “from the conception”. Moreover the proposal provides special protection to the institution of marriage, understood as the union between one man and one woman. We as Luca Coscioni Association and Radical Party, in the framework of our “World Congress for freedom of scientific research”, have been alerted by some women’s and LGBT’s associations complaining that the draft constitution, if approved in its present version, might restrict citizens equality and damage women’s right to health, namely through legal restrictions in access to abortion. We are experiencing similar hurdles in Italy, where our law 40 of 2004 on assisted reproduction limits freedom of research and treatment, by recognizing the so-called legal status of the embryo”. - An Italian experience of resisting religious fundamentalisms. The anthology Feminists on the Frontline: Case Studies of Resisting and Challenging Fundamentalisms has been published by AWID - Association for Women's Rights Development. The anthology includes the case study Associazione Luca Coscioni and the World Congress for Freedom of Scientific Research: An Italian Experience of Resisting Religious Fundamentalisms by Carmen Sorrentino. This collection of case studies is a testament to the women and men around the world who have stood up to reject the imposition of norms and values in the name of religion as well as to expose and challenge the privileged position given to religion in public policies. - Infertility action program in Romania. From Infertilitatea: “After three years of intense activity of our Association, for the first time in Romania the authorities believe infertility is a serious matter and an actual action program has been proposed. A national IVF program will be implemented in 2011 and 2012 and the couples that need IVF will benefit of compensation from the health insurance funds for one IVF attempt. For the hypo-fertile couples in Romania it is already a victory. Moreover, the Romanian law on ART, drafted following the initiative and with the participation of SOS Infertilitatea, is almost done and it will enter soon the Parliament's approval path” (source: SOS Infertilitatea Team @ Fertility Europe)
