THE TESTIMONY OF REGINA LOUF (X1) AN AFFAIR OF STATE?

A selection of articles published in De Morgen in January and February 1998

An inquiry by Annemie Bulté and Douglas de Coninck

We are not in possession of certitudes and we do not want to over-excite the imagination of the population, as some journalists fear. We simply believe that before forming an opinion about the facts, it is necessary to be aware of them.

This is why we are anxious to publish, at least partially, the detailed inquiry carried out over six months by Annemie Bulté and Douglas de Coninck on the annexed files in Neufchâteau and in particular on the testimony of Regina Louf (XI). The chief editor of De Morgen immediately granted us authorisation, for which we are extremely grateful.

We believe that the francophone press has often limited itself to commenting on the testimony of Regina Louf without devoting sufficient attention to its content. We have seen that the credibility of the testimony has been called into question publicly by people who have never taken the trouble to read it. With this publication, we wish to give everyone the chance to form their own opinion and ask themselves relevant questions. For the rest, we only hope that the investigation continues…

We do not wish to take justice into our own hands, but we no longer want to allow justice to take its own course. Our action aims to exercise the fundamental right and duty of every citizen in a democracy to keep watch over public matters.
